On the afternoon of April 1, the launching ceremony of the physical operation of the meteorological station of the 19th Asian Games and the 4th Asian Paralympic Games was held at the Hangzhou Meteorological Bureau.
It is reported that 19 key forecasters from the province’s meteorological department will be stationed in the Asian Games Meteorological Observatory. In addition to forecasters, special experts from the Central Meteorological Observatory and Regional Meteorological Center will also be stationed in the later period, forming a team of 24 people to jointly undertake the meteorological forecast and early warning services for this Asian Games.

The Asian Games Meteorological Observatory is located in the Hangzhou Meteorological Bureau, and at the same time, the meteorological observatories in the sub-competition areas are set up in the co-host cities Ningbo, Wenzhou, Huzhou, Shaoxing and Jinhua Meteorological Bureau. Zheng Peiqun, deputy director of the Asian Games Meteorological Observatory, said: “The most important feature of the operation of the Asian Games Meteorological Observatory is to gather the wisdom of the whole country and the strength of the whole province to carry out meteorological support services in accordance with the principles of joint business, collaborative production, unified decision-making, and territorial services.”
At present, 56 competition venues, 1 Asian Games village, and 5 Asian Games sub-village automatic weather stations in Zhejiang Province have all been built and put into use, realizing full coverage of special meteorological observations for Asian Games events. In response to the needs of special events such as equestrianism, beach volleyball, and water sports, the Zhejiang Meteorological Department has deployed observation equipment for comfort, sand temperature, and water temperature. The Asian Games Meteorological Observatory will carry out the processing, integration and sharing of meteorological support service products through the intelligent weather forecast and early warning service system for Asian Games events that integrates these data resources, and assists the Asian Games Organizing Committee and other relevant departments to dispatch and command.
“The physical operation is just the beginning.” Lou Xiaofen, chief forecaster of the Asian Games Meteorological Observatory, said, “At present, our main task is to establish a seamless weather forecast product system for short and medium-term 0-15 days.” To truly understand the weather in Hangzhou in September and October To be clear and understand, the Asian Games Meteorological Observatory still has a lot of work to do, such as analyzing the weather at the opening and closing ceremonies, and establishing targeted forecasting methods or models for various types of weather.
