“We always have something to do. We definitely won’t get bored,” says Fritz Holzinger. The 62-year-old joined the Alpine Club 31 years ago and has been chairman of AV Steyr since 2009. This year it is celebrating its 150th anniversary: ​​On June 8th from 11 a.m. there will be a mountain mass with Pastor Hans Hauer and the Laussa brass band at the Anton-Schosser-Hütte. This has been run by Harald Ritter as tenant since January 1st. And from October 17th to 20th, the Austrian Alpine Club will hold its annual meeting with a series of activities in Steyr. More than 500 guests from all 194 sections from all over Austria as well as from South Tyrol and Germany are expected in the city.

The new commemorative publication will also be published in October, which Markus Deichstetter, equipment manager and speaker for several activities, is currently working on together with the former OÖN editor Hans Stögmüller: “It was time to write a new one. It’s been 75 years since there was one.”

Currently, however, there are completely different topics that the 15-member club board has to deal with: “With the Schosser hut on the Hohe Dirn, the Ennstaler hut in the Gesäuse and the Sulzboden hut on the Hochbuchberg, the aim is to have three huts in “We have to maintain around 260 kilometers of paths in our area, where we are meticulously careful not to leave a single meter for the hikers to give up.” The Alpine Club is particularly proud of the 45 kilometers around the 140-year-old Ennstaler hut below the Tamischbach tower, which has been run by Burgi and Ernst Brunnmayr for four years. “The Gesäuse is about as important to us as the Nordkette is to Tyroleans.”
