According to a report by “Red Star News” on July 29, on the morning of July 20, Zhang Guihua, who lives in Poshui Town, Xingyang City, Henan Province, opened his own supermarket and started a busy day.
The supermarket is located on Kangtai Road in Baoshui Town. 57-year-old Zhang Guihua lives in the supermarket alone and works by herself every day. Both of her sons live in Zhengzhou. It rained heavily that day and there were not many guests. She only sold a few umbrellas in the morning.
At 12 noon, Zhang Guihua sent a video to her daughter-in-law, and the stairs outside the store were half flooded.
Soon after lunch, the supermarket went out of power. Zhang Guihua felt that something was wrong, but she did not receive any flood warning information at that time. She called her daughter-in-law, but no one answered. Ten minutes later, the daughter-in-law called back, but no one answered the phone.
At about 1 pm, the water level suddenly rose rapidly, and flooding flooded from Zhang Guihua’s supermarket. She hurriedly closed the two glass doors, but water kept leaking in through the slits.
She hurriedly brought a quilt, trying to close the door. Before the quilt was laid, a wave hit violently, and the glass door on the right shattered, and the shards flooded in with the flood. Zhang Guihua almost fell into the water, her leg and toe were cut by glass, the wound was one finger long and the flesh and blood turned outward.
At this time, her mobile phone could not be found, and the flood was not as high as her knees. There were waves after waves, and people could not stand firmly. According to her memories, the water level climbed from knees to waist and chest, and the whole process took less than ten minutes.
The shelves in the store were skewed by the flood, blocking the way to the back door-only through the back door can you go upstairs. At this time, Zhang Guihua saw the ice-cream freezer float up, and she was about 1.6 meters tall, trying to climb onto the glass cover of the freezer.
The water rose quickly, and she floated up with the freezer, and her head was about to hit the ceiling made of plasterboard. She took down the glass door of the freezer, stood in the freezer, then fisted with both hands and slammed it against the plasterboard ceiling.
The strong will to survive made her burst out with great strength, and the entire ceiling was smashed off by her.
The water level in the supermarket continued to rise, and when the water passed through the windows, the room was completely dark. The 96-square-meter supermarket is isolated by water as an island. There is no light, no electricity, and only the sound of water whirls in my ears.
At about 2 pm, Zhang Guihua’s second daughter-in-law found on the short video platform that the floods in Boshui Town were very fierce, and the streets and alleys were flooded. She was worried about her mother-in-law’s safety and kept making calls, but no one answered.
According to the video provided by the second daughter-in-law, the first floor of the house in Baoshui Town was flooded during the day on July 21. Zhang Guihua’s supermarket only has a white-printed red-bottom sign that is still exposed on the water.
At this time, Zhang Guihua’s clothes were soaked, and there was two to three centimeters thick frost inside the freezer. She said that when she stepped on it barefoot, she couldn’t feel the cold or the pain of the wound. Her body was wooden.
Zhang Guihua emptied everything in the freezer and lay quietly in the freezer. Now it is useless to call for help, only to wait patiently.
In the dim sky, there is more and more water in the supermarket, and the outer edge of the freezer has reached the ceiling. As the oxygen became thinner, Zhang Guihua’s consciousness became a little fuzzy.

Zhang Guihua said that he has opened a supermarket for 25 years. Zhang Guihua has been living in the store since the opening of the first grocery store in 1995. Now a flood has wiped out her half-life’s hard work. According to her estimates, the loss of the entire supermarket was RMB 400,000 to 500 thousand.
On July 20, a catastrophic flood occurred in Zhengzhou, Henan, causing tragedies in the subway and the Beijing-Guangzhou tunnel. At the same time, many villages and towns around Zhengzhou were also hit by floods. The explosion of this flood was related to the unwarned flood release by the authorities.
The Chinese Communist Party officially announced on the 29th that 99 people had died in the Henan floods, but the official figures have been widely questioned by the outside world. The list of people who lost contact in the floods published on mainland social media platforms has long exceeded the official figures.
