July 14 and 15 is scheduled “Argonauts in the Gulf of Vasto, a journey with the Anima Mundi, on the trail of Diomedes”is an event sponsored by the Municipality of Vasto dedicated to our Greek-Latin cultural roots which, with a different but similar formula, has already had enormous success in the United States (Charleston, South Carolina) and in Italy (Lerici, Portovenere, and on the Navigli in Milan).

It is a poetic-wisdom landing inspired by the myth of the Argonauts – who, guided by the hero Jason, set sail to conquer the Golden Fleece, a symbol of spiritual fulfillment – and by the journey of Diomedes, a veteran of the siege of Troy and bringer of civilization , which will be made on the evening of Saturday 15 July at 7.30pm at the beach of Punta Penna, in the Punta Aderci Reserve.

The event foresees the arrival of poets from the sea Angelo Tonelli and Massimo Maggiari accompanied by the singing of the theatrical performer Caterina Palmucci. To lead this re-enactment of the diomedeo landing will be the crew of “La Ciurma”, the Vasto rowing association, on its 10-oared spear. Once landed, the poets will give life to a reading accompanied by the multi-instrumental concert by Daniel Dubbini e Massimo Maggiari (bansuri flute, handpan, drum, shruti box) at the Info Point area of ​​the Reserve. The event is dedicated to those protective figures of marine travel such as Athena, Poseidon, the helmsman Angel or the Christian Stella Maris. In case of rain, the poetry reading will be held at the same time in the halls of the Pinacoteca of Palazzo D’Avalos

The event sponsored by the Municipality of Vasto, Department of Culture, is organized by New Library of Vastoin collaboration with the Arthena association, the Pantini-Pudente high school, the Vastese Society of Homeland History, Italia Nostra del Vastese, the Vasto Nautical Club, the rowing association “La Ciurma”.

The poetic-sapiential landing at the beach of Punta Penna will be preceded by “Waiting for the Argonauts” an evening kermesse with poetry and music, with the protagonists of the landing, at the New Library of Vastoin piazza Barbacani, Friday 14 July at 21.30.

Also on the morning of July 15 at 11.30at New Sourcein via Cona a Mare, Angelo Tonelli, will hold a seminar entitled “Dionysus, god of intoxication and contemplation”. Angelo Tonelli poet, director and theatrical performer, he is considered one of the greatest Italian Greek scholars. He translated from Greek all the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. In 2012 he won the Montale prize for poetry. Angelo Tonelli is president of the Arthena association and director of the MithosLogos cultural festival. Among his publications, the essays “For an initiatory theater” (2006) and “On the trail of wisdom” (2009), in which he summarizes thirty years of research on wisdom among the Greeks and in the East. Very recently published “The Greeks in us” (ed. Meltemi).

Massimo Maggiari, mythomodernist poet and writer, Emeritus Professor of Italian Studies in Charleston in the United States, has recently published Al canto delle balene.
