A 46-year-old Belgian tourist was seriously injured on Thursday after a fall during a hike in the Spanish nature park Penyal d’Ifac, in Calpe on the Costa Blanca. Spanish media report this.
The Belgian in his forties fell during a walk in the Penyal d’Ifac nature park. This is an enormous limestone rock, no less than 332 meters high, that rises from the sea and is connected to the Costa Blanca by rock rubble. It is a popular attraction among tourists because it is home to more than 300 animal species and numerous rare plants.
Unfortunately for the Belgian, things went wrong during his walk. The man in his forties fell and hit his head and chest, among other things. According to local media, he was seriously injured and had to be flown by an intervention helicopter to a nearby football field. That was completely cleared, so that the helicopter could land there next to another helicopter that would transfer the victim to the hospital in Alicante. It is not clear how the Belgian is doing now.
