A body was found next to the tracks in Sint-Genesius-Rode on Thursday morning around 6 am. The circumstances are still unclear for the time being. Police, lab and public prosecutor’s office are on site for further investigation.

“A body was found next to the tracks in Sint-Genesius-Rode this morning around 6 am,” confirms Britt Monten, spokeswoman for Infrabel. “The circumstances are still very unclear for the time being. It is therefore not known whether the victim was hit or not. As a result of the investigation, train traffic between Brussels South and Nivelles has been interrupted in both directions. Train traffic going from Charleroi to Antwerp also stops in Nivelles.”

Station

The Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office has now confirmed the facts. “I can confirm that a body was found this morning on the tracks, about 500 meters from Sint-Genesius-Rode station. The victim was identified as a 16-year-old girl. A medical examiner has been appointed who will perform an external examination.”

Train traffic between Holleken and Nijvel will therefore remain interrupted for at least 1 p.m. “We recommend travelers between Brussels and Charleroi-Central to travel via Ottignies or via La Louvière-Sud. Replacement buses run between Brussels South and Nivelles. We recommend that you follow the announcements and the website or app carefully,” the NMBS said.
