Bologna Città 30, oppositions organize consultative referendum – News

9 thousand signatures will be needed – to be collected in three months starting from when the board of guarantors of the Municipality of Bologna gives the green light – to call a consultative referendum on Bologna City. The leader of the initiative against the resolution of the Lepore council to reduce speed in the city, which will come into force tomorrow with sanctions, is Fratelli d’Italia, supported by Forza Italia, Lega, from the Bologna Ci Piace list and by the Mixed Group. The ‘No Città 30’ committee, whose president has yet to be designated, will however be civic, open “to the whole city” and to the parties and associations that they wish.

“We believe that Città 30 will not solve the problem of road accidents, perhaps it will solve the problem of the Municipality of Bologna with fines, but it will not save lives”, says the FdI senator, Marco Lisei. “We believe that the consultative referendum serves this purpose – he continues – and as the governing party we make everything we have available”. Words echoed by the group leader in the municipality of FdI, Stefano Cavedagna: “The mayor should have done this initiative months ago. The centre-right wants to go in this direction and wants to open up to the whole city. Instead, we note a reticence from the council in this direction “.

The “desire to participate” of the Bolognese, for the opposition representatives, is represented by the petition against Città 30 published on Change.org by Guendalina Furini, a 22-year-old student from Castel San Pietro, in the Bologna area, which in a few days raised 30 thousand signatures. “Let the popular vote choose,” she says of Matteo Di Benedetto, group leader of the League at Palazzo d’Accursio. “Lepore said that the majority of citizens agree with him, if he is convinced of this, he should dispel their doubts and let them choose with the referendum vote” even “without waiting for signatures to be collected. It would be a positive signal – he concludes – especially in terms of of democracy”.

Finally, the Forza Italia group leader in the Municipality, Nicola Stanzani and the city coordinator Lanfranco Massari, are keen to represent the difficulties of the many workers “including in public transport”, in businesses and production activities, who in their opinion will be penalized by the measure.
