BOLOGNA Fatal accident this morning, around 10.15 at Campovolo in Reggio Emilia. Two paratroopers, 54 and 35, lost their lives when they fell to the ground from a height of about fifty meters.
According to what they learned, the two – expert paratroopers with hundreds of jumps on their backs – would have had an open-flight collision and the strings of their parachutes would have intertwined, thus causing the fall to the ground.
The 118 health workers and the men of the State Police intervened on the spot. Despite the attempts of rescuers for the two paratroopers, there was nothing to be done.
Fabrizio Del Giudice (Turin but resident in Milan) and Gabriele Grossi (Viareggio), these are the names of the victims, took part in the demonstration organized by the Body Fly University – according to Reggionline reports – with about 300 paratroopers involved: for the occasion it was hired a special twin-engine Skyvan, which carries 25 people at a time, was trying to set the record for hitching up Reggio, that is, the largest number of people who dock together in flight.
The plane took off at 8.34 am and the group took off. Upon landing, two paratroopers got too close, their sails got stuck el’impact with the ground was very violent.
The two (Del Giudice was also a parachuting instructor) would have collided at a height of one hundred meters: following the collision their parachutes, during the descent, would have intertwined causing the fall to the ground from about fifty meters. .
Usually parachute jumps involve the formation of a formation around 1,200 meters, then at a height of 900 meters the parachutists separate, continuing their descent individually, in a defined open flight mode, until they touch the ground.
The demonstration was obviously suspended.
