CGIL, CISL and UIL: Valle d’Aosta risks medical shipwreck

by admin

Unions denounce a difficult situation: unsustainable workloads, relocating staff and the absence of strategic projects

“Interminable” waiting lists, staff “throwing in the towel”, delays in cancer prevention screening. And, above all, the lack of “strategic positions and projects that lead to believe in a change of course”. This is the picture of the Valle d’Aosta healthcare taken by the Public Functions of Cgil, Cisl and Uil Valle d’Aosta.

In a joint note, the three trade unions are once again asking for interventions to revive a sector whose workers have fought on the front line against the pandemic. «We record daily reports of psycho-physical fatigue, frustration and demotivation from local health authorities. The number of staff assisting patients in hospital today has almost halved compared to the past ”, say Fp Cgil, Cisl Fp and Uil Fpl Valle d’Aosta. «The workloads have become unsustainable as a result of a management and organization without criteria that respect not only work but also the dignity of workers as persons. Health professionals – the unions point out – are children of elderly parents to be cared for, they are mothers and fathers with underage children to take care of and they themselves can have health problems. It is unthinkable to treat them exclusively as if they were a registration number ».

The trade unions also report “the problem of the lack of staff in the sector or in any case, always fewer in number” and an “increasing number of nurses, socio-health workers and health technicians who resign to go to work in economically and organizationally more attractions “.

“Starting from today – the unions conclude -, with the emergency phase running out, we expect short, medium and long-term objectives from the governing bodies that can give answers to the numerous requests coming from workers of the regional health system and citizens . We also expect a serious confrontation with the social partners, who have been excluded from the debate concerning them for too long. The risk for everyone is a medical wreck ».
