Provincial Authorities Encourage Green and Civilized Practices During Qingming Festival

In an effort to promote the reform of funerals and burials and ensure safety and orderliness during the Qingming Festival, the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs and the Provincial Civilization Office have jointly issued the “Civilized Qingming Festival and Safe Qingming” initiative.

The initiative calls on cadres and the masses to consciously establish the concept of civilized funerals, actively practice green and safe funerals, and protect the ecological environment. The aim is to build a more civilized and harmonious community.

The authorities advocate for green and low-carbon memorial services, as well as land-saving ecological burials. They encourage activities like presenting flowers, writing messages, planting trees, and utilizing online memorial services to commemorate loved ones. Land-saving and ecological burial methods such as tree burials and scattering of ashes are also promoted to foster a harmonious relationship between man and nature.

Additionally, the initiative promotes high-quality and traditional funeral practices, emphasizing respect for the elderly and filial piety. It calls for the abandonment of unsustainable and wasteful funeral habits, urging for a more dignified and caring approach.

To ensure safety and orderliness during the festival, authorities recommend planning travel during off-peak hours and utilizing green transportation methods. They also discourage the burning of incense or paper in public areas to prevent fire hazards.

Party members and cadres are encouraged to set an example by leading the way in adopting these new practices. They are urged to implement regulations on funeral reform, conduct civilized and frugal funerals, and promote the new trend of eco-friendly burials.
