Company canteens in Canavese, divided workers. Asked for a trade union-companies table

by admin

There are many unknowns even for service staff. Confindustria: “We appeal to responsibility”

At the moment the Stamet of Feletto, pioneer of the introduction of the Green pass in the company canteen, has closed for holidays and the big realities, such as Dayco of Ivrea, get away with the bags, given the holidays. GTT, on the other hand, has decided to host only direct workers in the six company refectories and not outsiders, regardless of certification. In the office building, the corporate catering business has almost entirely closed since the beginning of Covid. Too many employees in smartworking in the companies involved.

The Sentinel of Wednesday 18 August in a minute

Divided workers

The landscape is jagged and softened by holidays, but the issue of the Green pass in company canteens divides “even the workers themselves – as Paola Eusebietti of Fim Cisl points out – and it is the most worrying thing. We also see it in the chats, where the distinctions are clear. We have been working over a year without major problems with security protocols. We do not understand why, now, to introduce this measure ». The Fim Cisl threatened the strike at Hanon di Campiglione in the Pinerolo area, and now underlines in a press release that “the issue cannot be resolved with a Faq”. And for this very reason he is asking for a table to be set up in the Region between companies and trade unions. “We are still waiting for an answer,” emphasizes Eusebietti.

The faq that disproves the region

On the regulatory front, there is total chaos, despite the fact that the famous Faq on the government website intervened on 14 August to clarify that the Green pass, for company canteens, is necessary. Two days earlier had arrived the opposite interpretation of the commissioner of the crisis unit of the Piedmont Region Antonio Rinaudo, who in a note where he highlighted how “there are substantial discernible di erences regarding the services offered by company canteens compared to commercial catering”. And he recalled a note from the Interior Ministry of August 5, which says: “The activities connected with the use of food are allowed to all staff, subject to compliance with the protocols.”

Trade unions: “Let the government clarify”

The position of the trade unions on the matter is unitary: it is up to the government to clarify it. «I have the impression – explains Alberto Mancino, secretary of Uilm of Ivrea – that they are trying to give the union responsibility it does not have. Equating a company canteen to a restaurant is wrong from a safety point of view. It goes with limited numbers, in turns. There are Plexiglas. Before entering the factory, the temperature is measured. We are very much in favor of vaccinations, but separating workers only for lunch is really absurd ».

Giovanni Ambrosio, head of the Ivrea CGIL, highlights the contradictions of the measure. “There is no obligation to green pass in the workplace, except for the health professions and at school – he argues -, but at the same time the right to a meal is undermined for those who do not vaccinate. For us, those who go to work must be able to eat. Then there is the issue of the control of the pass on which the government has limited itself to specifying that it is up to the manager of the restaurant and to the owner or legitimate holder of the places or premises where the meal is consumed. This opens up a scenario that needs to be clarified because we have deliberately pretended to ignore that we are talking about a sector that works in 90% of the cases under contract: who will therefore have to check? There is a theme that concerns the management of a sector already in severe crisis. While reiterating the need for everyone to vaccinate, we are extremely worried ».

Francesco Sciarra of Uil Tucs deals directly with canteen workers. «I know that in the health sector – he says – the ASL has sent to workers of the Dussman company, which has contracted the canteen service, the communication relating to the invitation to provide for vaccination. Speaking directly to employees and not to contracting companies. As a trade union, we are especially interested in understanding when companies want to resume canteen service. At the office building, for example, the workers are in FIS until 23 October. They have partially returned to Dayco ».

Confindustria: “Lighten standards”

Patrizia Paglia, president of Confindustria Canavese, throws an overall look at the affair. «The issue of the Green pass in the company continues to be a very delicate issue – he underlines -, not only as regards access to company canteens. It is necessary to appeal to the sense of responsibility of all the people who work in our companies: only complete vaccination coverage will allow to solve the problems that arise in terms of application of the rules on the Green pass. We are asking for regulatory easing for companies that cannot continue to be burdened with organizational costs and complexities “.
