Conegliano, the relay for peace opens the regional meeting of the Bersaglieri

Two days of events, celebrations and initiatives throughout the Marca. Tomorrow, Sunday 24th, the main events of the event

CONEGLIANO. Everything is ready in Conegliano to welcome the Bersaglieri arriving from all over the Veneto region (and beyond) for the regional meeting. Today, Saturday 23 October, and tomorrow, the celebrations linked to the 100th anniversary of the Unknown Soldier, among other things deeply linked to the city, will take place in the city and in the Coneglianese area. When, after the Great War, it was decided to pay homage to the memory of an unknown soldier, a national commission was established which arranged to recover eleven bodies of impossible identification from the various fronts of the First World War. In fact, in Conegliano, in the then church of the Madonna della Salute in via XX Settembre, six bodies of these soldiers were exhibited from 11 to 13 October 1921, before being directed to the Roman Basilica of Aquileia, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, where the body of the unknown soldier was chosen “at random” and is housed in the Altare della Patria in Rome.

Today and tomorrow the celebrations organized by the local section, ANB Edgardo Feletti di Conegliano, led by Nicolino Cusimano. Many initiatives have been put in place. Today at the Nervesa shrine at 8 am there was the departure of the crimson peace relay (conceived by the bersaglieri of Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia) for Vittorio Veneto. At 11, just in Vittorio, the unveiling of the plaque dedicated to the Unknown Soldier near the urn that contains the soil of the places where the bodies were exhumed, and the delivery of the parchment of the soldiers awarded the Knight’s Cross of Vittorio Veneto.

In the afternoon of today, Saturday, in Conegliano, three appointments: at 2.30 pm at the Assunta oratory the opening of the exhibition “La Domenica del Corriere” dedicated to the Bersaglieri, at 5 pm the mass in San Martino and at 6.00 pm the concert of the Fanfare of the Bersagliati at the theater of the Immaculate College. Tomorrow, at 8 am from the Fagarè della Battaglia shrine, the crimson relay race for peace will leave for Conegliano, where at 9 there will be a meeting at the Bersagliere monument, in via Papa Giovanni XXIII.

At the same time there will be the official inauguration of Largo dei Bersaglieri (the new roundabout between via Rosselli, via Papa Giovanni XXIII, via Friuli, via Cadore, via Matteotti and Vespucci). From 10.45 am the parade will start with a stop in Piazza IV Novembre where the peace relay will arrive. The procession will continue to the small church in via XX Settembre where the unveiling of the plaque dedicated to the unknown soldier will take place. Finally, at 12.00 the concert of the Fanfare on the Gradinata degli Alpini.
