Gimbe: “Omicron subvariants more contagious, but don’t worry”

“Omicron sub-variants do not worry at the moment, they are more contagious but hospitalizations do not increase” Thus Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Gimbe Foundation. On the sub-variant ba-5 Cartabellotta explains that “in our report we have taken into consideration the various sub-variants of omicron which are a little more transmissible by about 10-15% and show a greater evasion of vaccine protection. At the moment for Italy it is not we have official data. The data coming from South Africa are comforting because the data on infections is increasing, but this has no consequences in hospitals “. Finally, on vaccinations, he stresses that “we only have data on the over 50s, at this time of low viral circulation many are postponing the fourth dose, but there is an increase in deaths for the over 80s. For the general population it is a bet to say today if an annual dose of vaccine is needed. We await further studies to plan the autumn vaccination campaign. “

Lazio councilor: “Beware of Omicron 5, give us the vaccines”

“Covid cases are decreasing but let’s look carefully at Omicron 5, which is more widespread for now, which could lead to an increase in the curve for the autumn. This is why we ask for the updated vaccines that should have been ready for months to arrive soon”. Thus the councilor for health of the Lazio Region, Alessio D’Amato.
