Crowd and pro Ukraine balloons at the Vittorio Veneto carnival

Thousands of people at the appointment this afternoon in Piazza del Popolo and central streets. There was no lack of a moment of reflection on the war

VITTORIO VENETO. A “static” Carnival, it has been said, without a parade of allegorical floats and with fixed attractions to comply with anti-Covid regulations. There are street performers and a traveling circus. But the real surprise of today’s Carnival in Vittorio Veneto was the crowd: very numerous, at least five thousand people in the center for a moment of celebration dedicated above all to children.

In recent days there had been some controversy, on the part of those who had proposed to cancel the appointment in the square out of respect for the victims of the ongoing war in Ukraine. “It would be right to stop but I didn’t feel it – confided the mayor Antonio Miatto – I thought above all of children who need entertainment“. Ukraine was remembered with a launch of yellow and blue balloons as a sign of closeness to the Ukrainian people.
