A crowd filled the archpriest and the churchyard to say goodbye to the athletic trainer who died at 39

PEDAVENA. «Have a good trip, Mauro. We love you”. The words spoken in tears by a friend, accompanied by the moving applause of the hundreds of people gathered inside and outside the archpriest of Pedavena, marked the conclusion of the funeral of Mauro Siragna, the athletic trainer of Pedavena calcio who died at 39 .

The Pedavenese community stopped, in the afternoon of today, Saturday 19 March, to give the last farewell to the young sportsman, who was struck by a fulminant illness in the courtyard of his house in via Trento and died shortly after arriving by air ambulance at Ca ‘Foncello of Treviso.

He was a young man who was always active and involved in numerous social situations, he was remembered with emotion during the funeral service celebrated by Don Alberto Ganz. And to accompany him on his last trip, everyone arrived: the friends of Pedavena calcio, a third category team of which he was an athletic trainer and one of the founders, the blood donors of the Feltre sections with their pennants, the Alpine troops who had shared with him military service in the Seventh.

«We are here to thank you for what you have done for us», said the priest, «thanks for the time you have given to volunteering, to football, to friends. From up there we ask you to look at your friends when they take the field again ». The parish priest invited everyone to comfort his sister Paola and parents Elio and Rita, touched by the excruciating pain of having to say goodbye to their son. “You have been a ray of sunshine in our life,” said the sister, stroking the pale coffin covered in roses and colorful flowers.

Then the blood donor’s prayer and the words interrupted by the tears of the friend who, in the name of Siragna’s closest companions, wanted to remember that sensitive and always available boy, who behind his decisive appearance hid a great passion for animals and above all a tireless willingness to lend a hand and to be present, from the sports to the social sphere. And a long, thunderous applause greeted the coffin accompanied out of the church by friends among the pennants of the blood donors raised to the sky and the ranks of Pedavena players to make the wing.
