The emergency

The collapse occurred on the afternoon of Friday, January 12, in the sector known as Toldas, at kilometer 17 of the Medellín-Quibdó highway. The landslide buried the vehicles that were stopped in the area due to a previous landslide that had blocked the road, in addition to 50 people who were sheltering from the rain inside a home.

“We were all sheltered inside a house and the lady was feeding us while the big landslide of Las Toldas happened. There was part that was dripping water, it was dripping dirt and there were more than 50 people inside the house and the collapse took all those people away,” said one of the survivors in an audio that circulated on social networks.

The seconds before the tragedy were recorded in a video in which it is observed how while a line of vehicles waits to advance along kilometer 17 of the Medellín-Quibdó highway, the land is giving way little by little until the landslide devastates with everything in its path.
