Two weeks after the nationwide farmers’ protests, entrepreneurs and farmers protested again on the streets in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania today. There were several rallies and rallies.

Entrepreneurs and farmers protested against the federal government’s policies in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on Monday. The “Entrepreneurial Uprising MV” in particular organized several rallies and rallies in Rostock, Schwerin, Stralsund, Greifswald and Neubrandenburg. In total, the police counted more than 2,000 vehicles, including cars, trucks and tractors. This resulted in traffic disruptions in the city centers from early Monday morning until the afternoon.

Protests were peaceful

The rallies started from around 26 communities in the country – then the participants gathered for the central rallies in several locations. Participation was lower than two weeks ago, and traffic disruptions were also less than expected. Around 500 people took part in the motorcade in Neubrandenburg, around 350 in Stralsund and around 250 in Greifswald. There were occasional major traffic jams there, as was the case in the morning on the B321 towards Schwerin. Otherwise, traffic in the cities was mostly normal. In Stralsund, a press vehicle was damaged on the sidelines of the meeting. The police are investigating property damage. Apart from that, the rallies were largely peaceful.

Wide range of requirements

The demands of the “entrepreneur uprising” include better competitive conditions for farmers, an abolition of the CO2 tax, relief for nursing staff, VAT of seven percent in the catering industry and the reduction of bureaucracy. The organizers of the protests are also calling for a stop to arms deliveries to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, immediate new federal government elections and a free and honest media landscape.

Entrepreneurs’ umbrella organization criticizes “entrepreneurial uprising MV”

On Monday, the Association of Business Associations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania once again distanced itself from the “Entrepreneur Uprising MV” initiative. At the beginning of January, association spokesman Sven Müller said that the initiators were known from the Corona times and wanted to stir up unrest. On Monday, Müller said everyone should be able to express their displeasure. He expressed his understanding for the dissatisfaction of entrepreneurs in the country and also welcomed some of the demands of those taking part in the protests, such as a reversal of the toll increase for freight forwarders or the retention of the lower VAT rate in the catering industry.

However, the umbrella organization does not support other positions of the initiative. These included, for example, the withdrawal of sanctions against Russia or the creation of the impression that there is no free and independent press in Germany. Müller urged people to question who was calling for protests and with what intentions and recalled the need for dialogue. “Our path is different,” said Müller on NDR MV Live. “It is always important not only to be confrontational, but above all it is important to find a way to work together with those you criticize to show a way to do it better.”
