Environmental Disaster in El Palito: Oil Affects 70 km of Coast

Environmental activists have raised an alarm over the shocking oil spill at the El Palito refinery, located in the state of Carabobo. According to Eduardo Klein, a renowned Venezuelan activist, satellite images reveal that the stain and associated pollution cover approximately 70 km² of the coast of Puerto Cabello.

Petróleos de Venezuela, SA (Pdvsa) issued a statement, affirming significant progress, indicating that more than 80% of the coastal area has already been cleaned. However, Jesús Urbina, activist and university professor, contradicts this statement, pointing out that the stain extends up to 100 km² and projects its expansion to an additional 19 km.

Despite PDVSA’s efforts, criticism persists on social networks. Multiple users denounce the repetition of similar situations in El Palito and allege that citizens, in the absence of effective measures, have had to intervene using containers to contain the spilled oil.

The state oil company maintains that the spill was triggered due to heavy rainfall, causing an overflow from the refinery’s lagoons into the storm drain. Although PDVSA assures that there is no longer an active source of the spill and that it will take preventive measures, the community is skeptical given the recurrence of these incidents.

This environmental disaster raises concerns about crisis management and the need for more effective preventative measures at oil facilities. The story continues to develop, stay updated for the latest information on this critical environmental incident. #EnvironmentalDisaster #ElPalito #Pdvsa #Contamination #MedioAmbiente #NoticiasVenezuela #CrisisEcologica
