Fire Breaks out at Ningxia Sewage Storage Tank: Four Construction Workers Missing
October 24, 9:00 AM – A fixed sewage storage tank owned by Kunpeng Clean Energy Co., Ltd. in the Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base in Ningxia caught fire. By 10:30 AM, the fire had been extinguished and the temperature of the liquid in the tank had dropped below the safe level, reaching 16°C.
According to the person in charge of Ningdong Kunpeng Clean Energy Co., Ltd., and on-site construction workers, there were initially 10 workers present at the scene. However, upon further investigation, it was discovered that two workers had already left before the fire erupted, leaving a total of eight workers near the sewage storage tank. After the fire was put out, four construction workers were confirmed to be safe, while the whereabouts of the other four workers remain unknown. Relevant departments are currently conducting search and verification efforts.
In response to the accident, the Party Committee and Government of the Autonomous Region have taken the matter very seriously. Liang Yanshun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Autonomous Region, and Zhang Yupu, Chairman of the Autonomous Region, promptly provided instructions and rushed to the scene to oversee rescue and disposal operations. The Ningdong Administrative Committee swiftly implemented an emergency plan and carried out scientific rescue measures to prevent any secondary accidents. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and the individuals responsible for the company and construction contract have been detained by the public security organs in accordance with the law.
Furthermore, the autonomous region has initiated a comprehensive investigation and rectification process, drawing lessons from this incident to prevent similar accidents from occurring across the region. Special efforts are being made to ensure the safety of all sewage storage tanks in Ningxia.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety measures implemented within the industrial base and the need for stricter regulations to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
