Preliminary custody order executed by the Forestry Corps for a 60-year-old who allegedly set the fire while the fire-fighting forces were engaged in Montiferru and Monte Arci

ORISTANO. The alleged perpetrator of the disastrous fire in Cabras of 24 July 2021, which broke out almost simultaneously with the two great fires of Montiferru and Monte Arci, has been arrested. The fire was triggered in the very early afternoon, on a day classified by the regional bulletin as “extreme fire danger”, characterized by very high temperatures and strong sirocco winds and just as the firefighters were heavily involved in the great fires of the Montiferru and the Monte Arci. The Cabras fire was immediately very dangerous because, in addition to causing the destruction of more than 20 hectares of land in the immediate outskirts of the town, it had damaged residential and rural buildings, historic olive groves and vineyards, also causing the death of dozens of pets and pets and with very serious risk to public safety and human life. A patrol of the Forestry Corps, which was the first to intervene on the fire front, had rescued a woman who was desperately trying to save cats, hit by the fury of the flames. Likewise, an entire family was evacuated from their home, exhausted by the attempt to stem the flames and protect the building.
