Former Honduran Official Arrested for Extradition to U.S.
The former executive director of the Technical Committee of the Population Security Rate, Francisco Roberto Cosenza, was arrested on Monday in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, after the United States requested his extradition on charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering.
Gustavo Sánchez, Minister of Security, confirmed Cosenza’s arrest, stating that he is being held for pending extradition orders related to the charges brought against him by the United States. The National Police detained Cosenza at his home during an operation.
Cosenza, who served as the executive director of the technical committee during the government of President Juan Orlando Hernández, was sought for extradition by the United States justice system for the alleged crimes.
Following the extradition request, the plenary session of judges of the Supreme Court of Justice in Honduras appointed a natural judge to hear the request sent by the Court of the Southern District of Florida in the United States.
The arrest and extradition request highlight the ongoing collaboration between the United States and Honduras in targeting individuals involved in financial crimes and money laundering. Cosenza’s case will now proceed through the extradition process as he faces the charges brought against him by the United States.
