Victim of a pensioner from Brugnera. The carabinieri tracked down the author by crossing records, tolls and cameras
SACILE. He offered boxes of fruit and vegetables as a gift, but it was just a trick to rob the unfortunate. He succeeded in Brugnera, where he took a 15,000-euro watch off a pensioner, and in Turin, where he stole 200 euros in cash from a 51-year-old.
The carabinieri of the Sacile operative and mobile unit, coordinated by the prosecutor Maria Grazia Zaina, arrested Salvatore Di Fiore, 28, a native of Acerra, in the province of Naples, convicted in the past for two attempted robberies and one theft. The operating rate tracked him down in Villafranca di Verona late Friday evening and took him to the Udine prison. He is charged with two pluri-aggravated thefts.
Di Fiore, defended by the lawyer Rocco Marsiglia of Rome, was reached by an order of custody in prison signed by the investigating judge Monica Biasutti. Investigators believe that he had decided to establish his new operational base in the province of Verona.
The investigation started on November 9, 2020. That day, a 71-year-old local ran into a young man with a Neapolitan accent in via Dante at 11am. The boy claimed to know the pensioner and told him he had just opened a fruit and vegetable shop nearby, offering him two boxes of fruit as a gift. As the old man opened the trunk of his car, the young man skillfully slipped a gold and steel Rolex Daytona off his wrist and fled in a white van.
With acumen and patience, Sacile’s operating rate crossed the images of public and private cameras (sifting through hours and hours of filming), the control of motorway gates, toll tickets, telephone records, managing to identify the author .
Sacile investigators discovered that the suspect also used the same trick on April 13 in Vinovo, in the province of Turin, against a 51-year-old from Carmagnola. “You don’t know me I’m the son of (…) we haven’t seen each other for a while …” the words used to hook the 51-year-old. He then offered him the box of fruit, asking for a cash contribution and subtracting 200 euros in cash from the passer-by. Again he escaped aboard the white van, driven by an accomplice in the process of being identified.
The lawyer Marseille has announced that he will challenge the order to the Trieste review court. Di Fiore’s interrogation was set for Tuesday in front of the investigating judge Monica Biasutti. The lawyer noted that his client is not homeless, his mother is willing to welcome him and that therefore the precautionary measure ordered is excessive. The defense will object to territorial jurisdiction on the Turin episode.
