With an investment of $93,000 million, this March 14, 2024, Invias delivered the section of the highway in the sector of the municipality of Rosas, Cauca, after the collapse occurred on January 9, 2023.

Part of these resources were used for the construction of the provisional road, on which a 30-meter bridge was built, which was enabled on March 13 of the previous year, managing to partially overcome the emergency in that area of ​​the department.

In compliance with the commitments to the communities, cargo and passenger transporters and the export market, the Government, through the National Road Institute, put the 2.2 km of road at the service of Colombians, which will allow the emergency to be overcome. in the Rosas sector, department of Cauca, south of the country.

With the delivery of this section, which benefits nearly 834,000 residents of the surrounding villages and municipalities and more than three million people from Cauca and Nariño, the aim is to improve mobility from the center of the country to these departments, as well as strengthen the export of products between Colombia and Ecuador.

“Today we are putting into operation in the Rosas sector, Cauca, a definitive 2.2 kilometer section of the Mojarras – Popayán corridor, which was the subject of a road emergency the previous year. An investment of $93,000 million was made by the National Disaster Risk Management Unit, with the coordination of civil authorities of the department of Cauca, which made it possible to enable a temporary corridor that connected this area with the center of the country and which today we already deliver in its final version. “Thus, we continue to support with State investment areas that historically have not had the same generosity in the past and that this government seeks to put into the present and invest significantly to generate its own capabilities, improve conditions and guarantee competitiveness in all regions of the country,” said Transportation Minister William Camargo Triana.

The delivery of the work includes the commissioning of a 125-meter bridge that guarantees fluid traffic, regardless of rain or geological faults in the vehicular passage of this new structure, located on the El Chontaduro ravine, in Roses, Cauca.

For her part, the director in charge of Invías, María Constanza García Alicastro, stated: “Today, all vehicles that transit this important corridor, which connects the center with the southwest of the country, with the departments of Nariño and Cauca, but additionally with our neighboring country of Ecuador, can regularly transit trucks of up to 52 tons. With the road that was provisional, passability and the passage of vehicles through the area were recovered. Likewise, this investment served to carry out repairs on the alternative route Depression – La Sierra – Rosas, with paving activities, water management, pavement in critical points and widening of curves for heavy cargo and bus traffic.

Likewise, within the work carried out under this contract, the Piedra Sentada – El Tambo – Popayán road was improved, in order to enable the circulation of vehicles of up to 30 tons in one direction. In addition, Invías also carried out work on several sections of the alternate route that connects Pasto with Mocoa, which was used in January 2023 when the collapse occurred in the Rosas sector, of the Mojarras – Popayán corridor.
