Gustavo Petro’s youth advisor resigned

Gabriela Posso Restrepo resigned from her position as Presidential Advisor for Youth, of the Petro Government. The official confirmed her resignation through her X account on April 2.

Since the end of 2023, there has been speculation about Posso’s departure, because the Government would seek to eliminate that position to strengthen the Vice Ministry of Youth, led by Gareth Sella.

“An important stage in my life as a young professional and activist for change culminates, I have presented my resignation letter as Presidential Advisor for Youth to President @petrogustavo. I appreciate the trust of the PTE in entrusting me with this important task,” the former national government official said in her X account.

At the time, Posso was singled out by public opinion after she supported the Vice President of the Republic, Francia Márquez when she said “I’m not afraid to say it, Long live the front line!”, to which the counselor for The Youth responded the following: “We will never forget that youth were persecuted, stigmatized and violated for demanding a life with dignity. Our commitment as #GobiernoDelChange is the defense of life, justice and non-repetition. Solidarity with our vice president @FranciaMarquezM.”

On the other hand, regarding her resignation, since her publication announcing her resignation, she added more publications in which she talked about different activities that were carried out while she was in charge of the aforementioned department. “We designed the Colombia Joven en Territorio strategy, touring the 32 departments to listen, agree and build with popular youth. We achieved the participation of more than 5,000 young people who contributed more than 1,700 proposals for the formulation of Public Policy,” said Posso.

In other of his messages he commented that following instructions from President Gustavo Petro, the National Youth in Peace Program was launched, an initiative focused on the inclusion of young people in situations of vulnerability and violence. This program is nourished by the experiences and territorial knowledge of the young people themselves, who have actively participated in its formulation.

Likewise, in his thread commenting on his management he said the following: “We created, for the first time in the history of the country, a chapter dedicated to youth to be included in the National Development Plan as a guarantee of rights for the young people of the country. ”. And he added that: “We managed with Nestlé the delivery of a 70 thousand m2 property in Doncello-Caquetá that will benefit more than 4,200 young people with productive, social, cultural, environmental and training projects.”

In that sense, Gabriela Posso commented that the ministry she led made the proposal to create the vice-ministery of Youth, within the Ministry of Equality directed by the vice-president, Francia Márquez. According to Posso, this idea was born from the needs and demands of young people in the country. And she closed by saying that in fact said vice ministry is currently a reality.

She also mentioned two other programs that were carried out while she was the Presidential Advisor for Youth: “We created the Popular Roots Program that promoted the strengthening of popular enterprises and economies in La Guajira with training and employability processes. We promoted the IDEATON for decent work in collaboration with the ILO, which received more than 335 proposals from all regions of the country to promote the generation of ideas to strengthen the popular economy.”

And he closed his farewell from office by thanking the president and his cabinet: “To the President @petrogustavo, to the ministers, directors, work team and the hundreds and thousands of young people from all over the country who made Colombia Joven an entity that worked for the youth in a comprehensive way. Thank you totally! With Infobae
