Since last February 5, the Disaster Risk Management Directorate has been sharing knowledge, experiences and articulating actions to reduce the effects derived from fires, droughts, floods, landslides, gales, avalanches and other situations that may arise during this quadrennium, in the different territories of this region.

Under the argument, “Knowledge as a principle of prevention”, Guillermo Velandia Granados, head of this office, shared with more than 400 officials, mayors and some community leaders, his knowledge in Disaster Risk Management.

Engineer Velandia Granados held the position of Deputy Director of Reduction in the National Disaster Risk Management Unit, where he supported the response to several large-scale emergencies in the country. In addition, he is a candidate for a Master’s degree in this subject.

In this work, 2,560 km were covered, throughout the width and length of the territory; 29 high-risk points in each location were prioritized for proper management and intervention. Vulnerable and highly complex sites such as El Espejo in Chámeza, loss of road in Recetor, El Volcán in Támara, critical steps on the main road in Nunchía, flood zone in Pore, Paz de Ariporo and Trinidad, among other points that must be intervened immediately, to prevent damage.
