Forty couples from Switzerland, from various cities in Umbria, from Rome, from Ravenna, from Calabria, some together with their newborn children, were protagonists of the traditional feast of the promise of engaged couples celebrated in Terni in the basilica of San Valentino, patron saint of the city and lovers. For them the yes is expected within the year.
“The promise that you exchange on Valentine’s Day are not words or even feelings that you feel like sharing today, you know this very well, but it is life itself that you intend to base on each other and vice versa” it was the wish that Bishop Francesco Antonio Soddu addressed to couples. “The promise you make in church – he added – and in the presence of Saint Valentine, who, as successor of the apostles, reminds us that, to the extent that the Gospel is announced and witnessed to, then life has a meaning: the meaning full, as it is founded on the God of life and the fulfillment of promises. Never get bored with this great teaching, it is the light and strong secret of life itself. It is the light and strong secret of love”.
The couples – we read in a note from the diocese – then chorally pronounced the promise of love in front of the Saint Valentine’s urn.
