Interview of the week: Hellmeyer: Germany has to do its homework now

Records in the DAX, records in gold, records in Bitcoin. Folker Hellmeyer explains in an interview with wO TV where he currently sees an urgent need for action.

Martin Kerscher: Mr. Hellmeyer, let’s start with the positive: What data do you use to come to the conclusion that things are actually going quite well in the global economy?

Volker Hellmeyer: There’s a whole bunch of data there. We recently received the WEF forecast, 3.1 percent growth the year before and the base is getting higher and higher. This is fantastic. We see that China is developing very well. We had a trade balance with a new record trading surplus of $125 billion.

Exports grow by 7.1 percent, imports by 3.5 percent. This means that the world‘s largest economy is running smoothly, because rising imports and exports are the expression of increased economic activity. Also positive data from Germany. a trade surplus of 27.5 billion, also a record.
