IVREA

The ashes of Luigi dell’Oglio, who passed away last Tuesday 20, at the hospital of Cuorgnè, where he was hospitalized, after a period spent in the Ivrea hospital, will be scattered on the heights of San Giacomo di Andrate, Thursday 5 August at 11 am. following a severe cerebral hemorrhage. «He left us – says his beloved sister Aida, moved – after forty days of agony, in which he fought like a lion, not for himself but for the affections he abandoned. Several years ago, he told me: “I lived my life fully, even if I died tomorrow, I would have nothing to regret” ».

Well known in the city for having worked both at Olivetti and in the school, the engineer dell’Oglio, a native of San Severo di Foggia, has lived a long life, having reached 87 years of age, in full lucidity and activity. until the very end. «He was a great man – his sister still remembers -. I have known a few capable of deeply interested in engineering, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as literature, visual arts and music, and to practice them personally, on a professional level: he built villas and building complexes. Already old, he had learned to play the transverse flute, to carve wood and to paint ».

«He was a sportsman – he adds -. In the last few years, of course, he limited himself to playing billiards at the Società Canottieri, but a few decades earlier he had won regional chess tournaments, played tennis, practiced sailing and water skiing and, above all, still after the age of eighty, he flew, in various parts of Italy, with hang gliding and paragliding. Mostly, however, he threw himself from the heights of Andrate, from San Giacomo, until, heavy and slow, he dreamed of flying again, but, “my instructor – he said – now refuses to accompany me, because I am too slow on the ground “. Not to mention when he told amused that they had recovered him in a cornfield or on the roof of an isolated house in the countryside. Precisely this passion for soaring in the air is at the origin of the request that his ashes be scattered on those hills that had been the starting point of many of his flights ».

Any experience, physical or intellectual, thrilled him, never superficially. He graduated from the Polytechnic of Turin, in the 1950s, in Chemical Engineering and had worked at Olivetti in Ivrea and was then dean of Itis Camillo Olivetti, where he trained the company’s future technicians. «Everyone appreciated him for his teaching skills and for his human approach – concludes his sister -. A great. And like all great men, unable to recognize malice in human beings, a quality that has caused him not a few bitterness and disappointments ». –
