He died after a very brief illness on Saturday 11, in hospital in Ivrea, where Antonio Felice Casonato, known as Carlo, had been hospitalized a few days earlier. He was born 86 years ago, in Ivrea, in via Ospedale, the son of a lieutenant colonel stationed in the barracks in piazza Ottinetti and a secretary of Adriano Olivetti, and thanks to Olivetti he completed his studies, even if, while remaining grateful at the firm, he had chosen an independent job, in which to be the sole arbiter of himself.
As for his profession, Casonato was a son of art: his father, in fact, in 1928, had established the agency (today IvreAssicura-UnipolSai) which since then has operated continuously in Ivrea and whose first companies managed were Lloyd Continentale, La Continentale and, in the 1960s, with his agent son, Winterthur Assicurazioni spa. “Compared to the days of his grandfather – explains Casonato’s daughter Cristina – work had changed a lot, not to mention that the market was dominated by Olivetti who had entered into agreements with Generali and Ras for the benefit of its employees. My father aimed at all those people who were not part of the Olivetti reality, proving, over time, not only surprising skills as a salesman, but above all of empathy or the ability to grasp and feel the emotional experience of others, entering into full harmony with the ‘interlocutor ».
“Its greatness – emphasizes Cristina – consisted in understanding where the market could go, interpret it and, above all, in giving space to collaborators and young people”. «It’s true – confirms Fabio Picchi – Antonio was not a centralizer, but a good commander capable of delegating well and was able to let go of the reins and leave a part of his supremacy at the right time. At the end of the 80s, with the entry of information technology also into the insurance world, he had the ability to decide, as far as he was concerned, to continue to be the insurer of the past, leaving the management of the agency to young people and favoring, in 1991, the birth of AssiCasonato snc where he held 40% of the shares and gave Cristina and me 30% each. In 1999, with his retirement, Vincenzo Ceratti was appointed agent alongside us and AssiCasonato became srl ».
«Since then to the current IvreAssicura – adds Ceratti, moved – many things have changed, but the spirit that animates the agency has remained the one created by him who taught us everything. He was no less a father to us than he was to Cristina ». Today, Casonato, has found his wife Resi, the woman of his life, who disappeared last year. Casonato’s funeral will be held on Wednesday 15, in the Duomo, at 10.
