Two months of paid work placement in the editorial staff of Repubblica, the questions are open. The fellowship of the Google News Initiative, organized by the European Journalism Center, which will have Repubblica as a partner together with 30 other European newspapers. The program

The GNI Fellowship offers the opportunity to spend two paid months – between June and October 2022 – within the editorial staff of Repubblica for students or young graduates in journalism, technology, multimedia and design: a unique opportunity that could also mean the beginning of a professional path. The candidate chosen at the end of a selection process will have the opportunity to work in direct contact with the editorial staff in various areas: from writing to multimedia content to projects based on data analysis up to the design and development of new products. digital. Among the areas of interest within which the selection and subsequent internship will be carried out are: product, multimedia and UX / UI design; verification and fact checking; data journalism and interactive; audience engagement; business development; investigative journalism and “solution journalism”; competence and specialization in issues related to diversity, equality and inclusion.

The conditions

Those who win the fellowship will participate in a training bootcamp organized by the European Journalism Center together with the other candidates selected by the various newspapers, with whom they will be able to share experiences and resources, also getting in touch with the alumni of previous editions. Thereafter, the paid internship period will be lasting 8 weeks within the chosen organization. The European Journalism Center will follow the selected students throughout the fellowship period, monitoring the work done and the progress made. This year, particular attention will be paid to the issue of diversity in the newsrooms, which will be one of the important requirements in the final choice.

How to apply

The deadline for submitting your application is 15 March 2022. By the end of May, Repubblica and the other publications participating in the project will carry out the selection process and choose the candidates. At the beginning of June the selected candidates will participate in the international bootcamp. Finally, the paid intership period will take place between June and October. To be able to submit the application, you must be over 18 years old and enrolled in a university faculty, a journalism school, a master’s degree, or have obtained a degree or master’s degree in 2020 or 2021. You must be a citizen or resident of the same Country for which the application is presented, therefore for those interested in an internship at the Repubblica, it is necessary to be Italian or resident in Italy.

It is important to know that the application form must be made exclusively through the form at this link, on the site maintained by the European Journalism Center. The editorial staff of Repubblica does not collect applications. The selection process and the choice of the winning candidate will then take place at a later time, after the closure of the application submission period, which expires on March 15th.
