A space dedicated to the promotion of reading aimed not only at patients, hospital staff and students of the Faculty of Medicine but also at interested citizens. This is the objective of the new library inaugurated today in the Vinci pavilion of the SS hospital. Annunziata of Taranto.

Thanks to the L’Obiettivo association, from Thursday 28 March, in the room in front of the Auditorium, the library will act as a reading room and will allow the loan of books. The service will be operational every Monday and Thursday from 9.30 to 12.30.

The room was equipped with shelves and furnishings purchased by the association thanks to funds from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and with around two thousand texts by modern and contemporary authors, from fiction to essays to history. The library will also be available for hospitalized people: every Wednesday afternoon, from 4.30pm to 6pm, the volunteers on duty will move around the departments with a trolley of books to be able to process the requests of those who are unable to reach the facility.

A reading point, i.e. a space with books for free consultation, will also be operational in the waiting room of the Cup (single booking centre).

A first library was built in 2016. After the pause due to the pandemic, the ASL management identified a new space also open to the community. The collaboration with the L’Obiettivo association will continue: in fact, an area dedicated to the library is also planned for the San Cataldo hospital being built.
