Recently, Shao Yibu’s mother You Yongmei posted a long post on her daughter’s Weibo, reporting 13 students who participated in bullying with real names, demanding that these students, their principals and teachers be held accountable for their inaction, and to seek justice for her daughter.
On June 17, You Yongmei posted that Shao Yibu was studying in the ninth grade, third class of Shanghai Xincheng School and suffered long-term school bullying at the school. Although some classmates have written apology letters to admit their mistakes, the acts of hurting her daughter have not stopped.
At school, Shao Yibu was often ridiculed and ridiculed in the class. Those people took the lead in isolating her and excluding her, but she did not tell her mother what happened to her. It was not until the afternoon of May 9, 2021, that You Yongmei received a call from her daughter’s head teacher and learned that her daughter had been bullied on campus for a long time, which made her feel sad and angry.
You Yongmei said that the bullies knew she was going to hire a lawyer to sue them, and they pleaded not to sue them out of fear of legal responsibility. But they didn’t stop bullying her daughter after they were told not to prosecute.
The desperate Shao Yibu finally jumped off the building and committed suicide. You Yongmei described that on the morning of November 7, 2021, her daughter said to her, “Mom, I’m going out for a run.” However, her daughter did not go down the stairs when she left the house, but climbed up the window sill on the 6th floor. After the incident, Shao Yibu was sent to the hospital for treatment, and his life was saved after three and a half months of treatment. You Yongmei said that her daughter had multiple injuries and fractures in various organs of her body. Among them, traumatic pancreatic rupture is the most deadly and permanently damaged. Two operations have been performed now, and there are still more operations to be done in the future.
Mainland Red Star News reported that You Yongmei revealed that Shao Yibu’s treatment costs had reached hundreds of thousands of yuan. Now, my daughter’s nasal bone is broken and she has not had surgery yet. Now everyone wears masks, and her appearance does not seem to be affected. The child’s body is still recovering, and it is expected that another operation will be required after taking the high school entrance examination.
You Yongmei said that after investigation, it was three classmates in the class who first hurt Shao Yibu. “They spread rumors to ruin my daughter’s reputation, and soon more and more classmates joined (bullying) under their influence.”
You Yongmei mentioned that on February 24, the day after Shao Yibu was discharged from the hospital, she contacted the head teacher and made it clear that Shao Yibu’s accident was caused by school bullying, and that they would pursue the legal responsibility of the students involved. However, numerous discussions with the school on accountability were unsuccessful.
In the end, You Yongmei said that she would investigate the school’s teachers for condoning bullying behavior, as well as the legal responsibility of the bully, and called on everyone to pay attention to school bullying.
After the incident attracted public attention, on June 26, the Education Bureau of Minhang District, Shanghai issued a notice saying that on June 15, after receiving a letter from Ms. You (reporting) that her female student Shao was bullied, the bureau set up a working group to request The school conducts an investigation.
