Provincial Governor Holds Emergency Meeting to Address Road Traffic Safety During Snowstorm
On February 23, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor Mao Weiming conducted an emergency dispatch meeting at the Provincial Department of Transportation to address road traffic safety conditions in the province. The meeting was called in response to a new round of low-temperature rain, snow, and freezing disasters affecting the region.
During the meeting, Governor Mao stressed the importance of implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions on preventing and responding to inclement weather. He emphasized the need for extreme responsibility, strict measures, and powerful implementation in dealing with the challenging weather conditions.
Vice Governor Li Jianzhong and Secretary-General of the Provincial Government Qu Hai were also present at the meeting.
To coordinate the response efforts, Governor Mao connected with the Changde Branch of the Expressway Group and the Lixian Road Industry Brigade via live video to discuss ice and snow removal, vehicle traffic, and other critical issues on major roadways. As of the morning of February 23, a total of 866 kilometers of snowy and icy highway sections were reported in the province.
In response to the weather conditions, the province had launched a Level IV emergency response, deploying over 17,000 emergency rescue teams and more than 4,500 pieces of machinery and equipment to ensure the safety of travelers. Despite the challenges posed by the snowstorm, the province’s transportation and security situation remained stable, with main waterways reported to be safe and smooth.
Governor Mao emphasized the need to prioritize the safety of people and their property and called for a concerted effort to address the ongoing weather challenges. He stressed the importance of continuous monitoring, early warning systems, and timely information dissemination to ensure smooth and safe road traffic.
Local authorities and departments were urged to fulfill their political responsibility in ensuring public safety and to coordinate efforts to address key areas of concern. Governor Mao also called for the support and protection of front-line workers, highlighting the importance of working together to overcome the challenges posed by the snowstorm.
