Member of the FARC dissidents in Arauca sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison – news

The Ombudsman’s Office, through the Delegate for Social and Regional Conflict Arauca, participated in the dialogue space led by the Ministry of the Interior to address the list of requests presented by the Social and Popular Mass Political Movement of the Central East of Colombia (MPMSPCOC), which is holding a day of mobilization to demand rights in Saravena (Arauca).

After several hours of conversations between the spokesmen of the social mobilization, representatives of the National Government and the oil company Parex Resources, no agreements were reached regarding the social demands presented by the community that would allow the social protest that has been carried out since the last January 22 in areas adjacent to the oil fields.

The dialogue was mediated by the Ombudsman’s Office, which facilitated and moderated the interventions of the parties to seek and reach agreements. However, the lack of time and concrete solutions for solutions on the part of the government entities did not allow the satisfactory closure of the table, nor the definition of a work schedule in search of a prompt and effective solution to the mobilization. through verifiable and effective agreements.

For this reason, the Ombudsman’s Office reiterates the call to the National Government, the territorial authorities of Arauca, the oil companies and the spokesmen of the mobilization, to join efforts aimed at resolving the needs of the community that motivate the protest in question. .

In addition, it urges that the agreements on social investment, productivity, human rights, among others, that have been signed in past negotiation tables with the mobilized organizations be fulfilled, so that the protest is lifted and operations are restored. of the oil company.

It is urgent to guarantee the political rights of leaders and participants of the social protest that is currently taking place in Arauca and to avoid the stigmatization, persecution and judicialization of their spokespersons. Also that the rights of 860 workers of the Parex company be ensured, whose contracts were suspended due to the paralysis of operations in Saravena and Tame, where the social mobilization is taking place.
