The match between Spain and Colombia, scheduled for March 22 at 9:30 p.m. at the London Stadium, will be officiated by English referee Michael Oliver.
Oliver, 39, is a regular referee in UEFA competitions and has been international since 2012. He has coached the Spanish team on previous occasions, such as in March 2017 in a World Cup qualifying match against Israel (4-1 result), as well as in the quarterfinals of the Euro Cup last July 2, 2021 in Saint Petersburg, where ‘la Roja’ advanced after a 1-1 draw and the subsequent victory on penalties against Switzerland .
In his last refereeing, two weeks ago, he was in charge of the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 between Real Sociedad and Paris Saint-Germain. In the match against Colombia, he will be accompanied on the wings by his compatriots Lee Betts and James Mainwaring, with Englishman Jarred Gillett as the fourth official.
After the confrontation with Colombia, which comes into the match with a nineteen-game unbeaten streak, Spain will face Brazil on March 26 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium (Madrid) at 9:30 p.m., in a match that is part of the campaign against the racism.
