There are at least four prison police officers investigated by the Modena prosecutor’s office, with the hypothesis of the crime of torture and aggravated injuries, in relation to the events that took place on 8 March 2020 inside the Sant’Anna prison, when following a riot in the prison house killed nine inmates.
The file is entrusted to prosecutors Lucia De Santis and Francesca Graziano. The agents of the prison police have already been heard directly by the magistrates in charge in recent months. Two of them rejected the accusations, made by inmates present on the day of the riot, who spoke of violence and beatings.
The investigations coordinated by the Modena prosecutor’s office are not yet closed and it is not even excluded that the number of suspects may be higher.
