“No water while working in the factory.” Strikes at Modular

by admin

The San Vendemiamo company, which is part of the Nice group in Oderzo, allows bottles to be taken only before the start or during a break. The RSU: “Unacceptable”

SAN VEDEMIANO. The water strike. “We inform you that, as per the communications exposed in the past years, the bottles of water can be taken only before the start of work or during breaks”. Modular signed. We are in San Vendemiano, with 350 employees of the well-known company that is part of the even more famous Nice group, the multinational from Oderzo.

The response from the union delegates was immediate. “The RSU proclaims a 4-hour strike to go out on Friday 30 July and Friday 6 August and a 2-hour strike to go out from Monday to Thursday, from 2 to 5 August”. And then the motivation: «These actions are made necessary by the absolute lack of will on the part of the company in seeking mediation with the workers».

This also happens in the midst of the dizzying post-pandemic restart. Not even a minute is lost in the search, when the temperatures rise, for a bottle of water. The workers, when they found themselves in the presence of the message, not only got annoyed, but immediately appealed to their RSU delegates to intervene against what appeared to be “a useless and bad abuse”. Workers who are not in air-conditioned offices.

And, mind you, not all water is free. After the first two half-liter bottles, the workers have to pay for it. It is known that the high sweating produced also in relation to the rhythms of work needs to be compensated by taking lots of fluids, in order not to dehydrate and risk heat stroke during the 8 hours of work.

The delegates let it be known that after the management’s statement there was silence regarding their requests to review this provision. This intransigence saw the reaction of the factory union with the convening of the assemblies which took place on Thursday 29.

Assemblies of workers who have given a mandate to the RSU to call a flurry of strikes, which began on Friday 30 July with the first 4 hours (very successful) going out and which will continue for the whole coming week with two hours a day and last 4 hours on Friday 6 August , as written in the press release of the same RSU.

The union’s objective is to protect workers and to enforce health and safety regulations that provide for the right of the worker in the presence of high temperatures to have access to all the water necessary for their needs rather than those of the employer. The workers are ready to suspend the protest immediately if the management removes the absurd ban – the delegates say – and finds alternative solutions with RSU workers that allow access to all the fresh water needed.
