An Open Arms ship has landed in Crotone with 57 migrants on board, including five minors.
The vessel should have reached the port of Brindisi, initially chosen as the landing port, but it was subsequently decided to disembark in Crotone due to adverse weather and sea conditions.
The migrants who disembarked are mostly Syrians and, to a lesser extent, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and one Egyptian. The landing operations were difficult due to the rough sea due to the strong north wind. The migrants, after completing the identification operations, were transferred to the reception center on Isola Capo Rizzuto.
Once the disembarkation of the migrants was completed, personnel from the State Police, the Financial Police and the Crotone Port Authority boarded the ship. The investigators, through the testimonies of the crew members and the examination of the on-board documentation, are ascertaining whether, in order to carry out the rescue operation, the rules contained in the “Cutro Decree” were violated. If so, the administrative detention of the vessel would be triggered.
