The new year for dLiveMedia begins with music. On Friday 19 January at 5.30pm at the Teatro delle arti of Salerno, Phil Mer, one of the most sought-after session men of his generation in Italy, will hold a drum masterclass.
The day is organized by dLiveMedia directed by Roberto Vargiu and the Monte Pruno Foundation chaired by Michele Albanese, in collaboration with the Teatro delle Arti.
Born Philipp Mersa, Phil Mer, born in 1982, took his first steps in the world of music at the age of 4. It is Red Canzian (who marries Mer’s mother for the second time) who gives him his first drum kit. Later came guitar and piano, but he never forgot his first love. So much so that at 16 he made his percussion debut on Pooh’s summer tour. At just 18 years old he recorded a fusion music album together with his colleague Paolo Conti. A year later, however, he was the protagonist on the theater in the musical Pinocchio.
But Mer is not only the drummer of I Pooh: the Italian composer has played for Pino Daniele, Malika Ayane, Michele Zarrillo, Patty Pravo, Annalisa, i Pooh, Enrico Ruggeri, Lorenzo Fragola and Francesco Renga. On the Jazz music front, his collaborations are with David Binney, Jason Lindner, Stefano di Battista, Roberto Cecchetto, Gianluca Mosole, Francesco Bearzatti, as well as being the founder, together with Andrea Lombardini, of the The Frames project, in which he translates masterpieces into music pictorial in the history of art.
His drumming is very technical, but the great passion for all the instruments and the great work in the studio as a session musician give us «intelligent percussion», as if Mer knew how to «switch» depending on the situation, but always in favor of the music itself .

Phil Mer is an eclectic and imaginative musician, with a great imagination and, like all greats, with a strong desire to experiment with ever-changing sound solutions to share with new students”, explains Vargiu. Followed, at 8pm, by the screening of «Casanova Opera Pop», the musical film by Red Canzian and the arrangements by Mer himself. Venice, queen of the seas, Lady of the eighteenth century, has reached the end of its thousand-year history. Between the liquid mirrors of the canals and the velvet curtains of the theaters, life smiles during the day and lights up at night.
