According to Polish media reports, the two were caught in the presidential palace. President Duda, who comes from the ranks of the PiS, received the former Interior Minister Kaminski and his State Secretary Wasik in the morning while the police were supposed to take them to prison.

Both politicians were sentenced to two years in prison for abuse of office by a Warsaw district court in December after an appeal and were due to begin their sentences.

New Prime Minister Tusk said it was an unprecedented situation for convicts to find refuge in the presidential palace.

This message was sent on January 10, 2024 on the Deutschlandfunk program.
