Primary in Sesto San Giovanni: the Democratic Party beaten by the Italian Left in the former Stalingrad of Italy

Slip of the Democratic Party in Sesto San Giovanni. In Sunday’s primaries Alberto Bruno, dem candidate in the center-left primaries, was in fact beaten by Michele Foggetta, supported by the Italian Left. It will be Foggetta, who obtained 638 votes (against Bruno’s 611) to represent the coalition at the administrative offices on 12 June against the current center-right citizen Roberto Di Stefano. Third place for Mari Pagani, former municipal councilor of the Democratic Party now enrolled in the mixed group.

«Before mine is a victory for the city that has participated in large numbers in this celebration of democracy which was the primary. It was a great team effort – the first words of the winner – now everyone’s work is needed to create the Sesto of the future ». Foggetta has been involved in politics for fifteen years and since 2012 he has sat among the benches of the city assembly as an advisor to the Federation of the Left. He is also secretary of the Peppino Impastato section of the Italian Left and responsible for the party’s Metropolitan City of Milan.

To weigh on the result, which will certainly open a discussion within the Milanese Pd of Lombardy (also in view of the Regionals next year), was the low turnout of the militants (despite the bad weather): 1657 voters. In 2012, when the center-left voters focused on Monica Chittò, who was then elected to lead the former Stalingrad of Italy, 2,785 people participated in the primaries.
