Up to 1,100 supporters of the “lateral thinkers” scene held a speech on Saturday under the motto “Diplomats instead of grenades!” protested in Hanover. The police have initiated several cases of incitement to hatred.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m., the meeting of the “Quermachen 511” association started on Opernplatz with around 700 participants, the police said. After several speeches under the motto “Diplomats instead of grenades!” According to the police, the meeting started around 3 p.m. with around 1,100 participants. The meeting ended around 6 p.m. by the meeting management, according to a police statement. This had expected up to 2,000 demonstrators in advance, they were there with a large contingent.

Counter-demonstration as a sign of solidarity and democracy

The alliance “Hanover against the Right” had called for a counter-demonstration. According to police estimates, up to 250 people responded to this call. The protest march was organized by the citizens’ initiative “Grandmas against the Right” and the Hanover city association of Bündnis90/Die Grünen. With their counter-demonstration, the organizers and the participants wanted to set an example for solidarity and democracy.
