Ricardo Cardona, Deputy Minister of Education – Diario La Página, dies

Ricardo Cardona Alvarenga, vice minister of Education in the government of President Nayib Bukele, died tonight, according to official sources.

On March 16, the vice minister’s wife, Adela Angelina López de Cardona, died, filling the official’s family with mourning.

«The Government of El Salvador regrets the irreparable loss of our Vice Minister of Education, Ricardo Cardona. We raise prayers to our creator for his eternal rest,” reads the Presidential House account.

Cardona was an economist with studies in financial training and education, collaborative economics and labor productivity, finance and institutional development, according to his account available on Linkedin. Since 2019 he served as vice minister of the Education portfolio.

His resume highlights his experience working in international organizations, cooperation and international relations. He was a teacher, academic and business consultant.

He was part of the Organization of Ibero-American States for education, science and culture (OEI), Regional Director for Central America and the Dominican Republic, from 2007 to 2015.

In addition, he served in the Ibero-American General Secretariat, as Head of the Ibero-American Cooperation Area, from 2000 to 2007.

Likewise, the vice president of the Republic Félix Ulloa, regretted the death of the official.
