The injury at 2,300 meters on the Cinque Torri in the Belluno area. Avianese, 44, was with her husband: he suffered an injury to a phalanx

AVIANO. A 44-year-old mountaineer residing in Aviano was injured while hiking in the mountains in the Belluno area. She was with her husband on the Cinque Torri Dolomites complex, north west of San Vito di Cadore and south east of Cortina.

The couple from Aviano measured themselves against Torre Lusy, one of the three peaks that make up the conglomerate of the “Second Tower” at over 2,300 meters above sea level. The emergency started around 13.20. The couple from Aviano on the way back was hit by a volley of stones. The woman cut her finger, injuring a phalanx. At 1.40 pm the Treviso emergency helicopter, alerted by the mountain rescue, recovered the injured hiker, who was struggling to breathe.

A helicopter rescue technician lowered the winch to the woman, 25 meters below, loading her onto the helicopter with which she was transferred to the emergency room of the Belluno hospital. The husband returned to his car independently. According to what has been learned, the mobility of the limb was not impaired.

Yesterday was a busy day for rescuers in the Belluno area, with a dozen interventions to help injured or sick hikers along the paths and on high-altitude roads, for which three helicopters were used to transfer them to the hospitals. (one also from Bolzano).

The Cinque Torri, like all the mountain formations in the area, are made up of Dolomia rock. Each tower is indicated with its own name. The couple from Aviano were returning from the Lusy tower, when they ran into the landslide movement. It should be noted that in June 2004 one of the Towers collapsed: although it was one of the minor rock teeth, it was among the most beautiful and loved by climbers.

The Towers have always represented an area frequented by mountaineers and sport climbers: the Dolomite group offers a large number of routes, on which to try your hand at various kinds of difficulties. Historically, the Cinque Torri have been considered the rock climbing wall of the “Scoiattoli di Cortina” group of mountaineers.
