Struck down by an illness that left him no way out: farewell to Marco Driussi, lover of the mountains

by admin

PONTEBBA. The mountain was his second home, the chosen place to spend his free time from work, which in turn called him to frequent the outdoors. The life of Marco Driussi, employee of the forest service and forestry corps of the Fvg Region, he was a continuous exchange of energies with nature, which he loved and protected. And it is precisely on one of its peaks that he ceased to live, seized by a sudden illness that left him no way out. Born in 1959, from Udine, he died during an excursion on Monte Cavallo in Pontebba.

The alarm went off on the way back, shortly after 15. He was coming down from the top, when something electrocuted him inside and in a flash he found himself on the ground, slumped to the ground without even having time to ask for help. It was one of his excursion companions who noticed this, called for help and, while waiting, tried to revive him by following the instructions given on the phone by the operators of the Sores di Palmanova plant. Everything useless. Not even the resuscitation maneuvers of the medical team of the regional helicopter rescue that landed near the summit were not enough to keep him alive. And at that point, having heard the magistrate on duty, all that remained was to transport him to Casera Winkel, in the presence of the Finance Police and the rescuers of the Moggio Udinese station.

With his death, Driussi leaves a great void in the world of the mountains. In addition to the forest environment, he was also well known in the Civil Protection for his multi-year activity in the field of forest fire fighting. Adventurous researcher of his own roots, in the summer of 2014 he embarked on a two-month trip around the world, first on an old Lada Niva to Russia, at the most extreme point accessible by car on the Eurasian continent, and then flying to the USA to visit the places where his father Lodovico had been a prisoner.
