Syrian dubbing increases the spread of the “age issue”

The Moroccan series “The Case of the Age”, which was dubbed into the Syrian dialect, was able to achieve high viewership rates and take the lead.

The latest statistics issued by the “Maraya” platform for showcasing Arab works showed that the drama series “The Case of a Lifetime” caught the eye and ranked first in the Arab world, outperforming the rest of the works shown on the platform. What shows the Arab public’s openness to Moroccan dramas dubbed into Syria.

The series “The Case of a Lifetime” tells the story of Adam, a talented lawyer who dedicates his career to defending the oppressed, and finds himself facing a complex case of a prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment 32 years ago for a murder he did not commit. While he has a strong love relationship with Ghaitha, the daughter of the rich man “Nasser”, who was the reason for the implication of his client, the Arab prisoner, in the murder, he finds himself in a psychological struggle between his client and the father of his girlfriend.

The art critic Abd al-Karim Wakrim recorded that the step of dubbing Moroccan works into the Syrian dialect, which is a precedent in the history of Moroccan productions, will gradually open new horizons and markets for Moroccan drama, which may expand with time. However, the critic himself considered the issue of dubbing it not a good thing, whether from the technical point of view, which loses the work’s spirit and vision, or in terms of the Moroccan identity of the work.

Wakrim highlighted, in his statement to Hespress, that “it would be strange to see Muhammad Khaye, Amin al-Naji, or others speaking in Syrian, in addition to that this would perpetuate the saying that has been repeated for a long time without scrutiny and no evidence or proof to prove it; And it is that the Moroccan dialect is difficult to understand for the peoples of the Arab East.”

It is noteworthy that the drama series “The Case of the Age”, which was shown by “Al-Oula” channel in 2020 and directed by Murad Al-Khoudi, co-starred Adnan Mohajja, Nadia Ait, Maryam Bakush, Muhammad Khayy, Karim Al-Dukkali, Hajar Kreik’a, Yahya Al-Fandi, Nasser Qabab, and others.
