In other news, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council recently held a regular press conference. During the conference, Spokesperson Chen Binhua addressed General Secretary Xi Jinping’s emphasis on the reunification of the motherland in his 2024 New Year’s message.

Chen Binhua stated that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech was rich in connotation and of great significance. It pointed out the historical trend of the reunification of the motherland and raised ardent expectations for compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. He emphasized that Taiwan is an integral part of China and achieving reunification is necessary to eliminate the hidden danger of “Taiwan independence” separatism, oppose external interference, and safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests.

Chen Binhua also stated that Taiwan compatriots will work with their mainland compatriots to share the dignity and glory of a great country and be proud of being upright Chinese. They will adhere to the one-China principle and the “1992 Consensus”, oppose “Taiwan independence” separatism and external interference, and promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
