At 9:25 on July 25, local time, the side span of the 165-166 pier on the right side of the Jinhai Bridge construction section of the Zhuji Urban Railroad in Sanzao Town, Jinwan District, Zhuhai City suffered a box girder collapse accident. Five workers were lost in the sea.
According to Lu media reports, in the afternoon of the same day, rescuers found two people who fell into the water in the underwater box beam at the scene of the accident and confirmed that they were dead.
According to data, the Jinhai Bridge is the longest bridge among the bridges built in Zhuhai. Construction started in March 2018 and is expected to open to traffic in 2021. This is the first road and railway dual-purpose bridge erected at the mouth of the Pearl River Delta. It is said to be an important channel connecting Zhuhai’s eastern and western urban areas.
The construction unit of this project is Guangdong Guangzhu Intercity Rail Transit Co., Ltd., the construction unit is China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd., the survey and design unit is China Railway Fourth Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd., and the supervision unit is Tianjin New Asia Pacific Engineering Construction Supervision Co., Ltd.
Before the box girder collapse of the Jinhai Bridge, on the 15th of this month, a serious water seepage accident occurred at the Shijingshan Tunnel under construction in Zhuhai, resulting in the death of 14 workers.
