The bridge and the return of tourists to the Marca: “80 percent occupancy in hotels”

Giovanni Cher of Federalberghi speaks: «Now look at the summer. Good promotional campaign with Ryanarir. The B & Bs recover the closures “

TREVISO. T as “tourists”. They have returned, many and from many different countries; in organized groups, as a family, as a couple pushed to Treviso by an Easter weekend with semi-summer temperatures (except for the rain on Saturday) and by an airport that has resumed flying as it did before the pandemic. And the world of hoteliers hopes this is the end of a nightmare that lasted two years. From farmhouses to typical restaurants, from naturalistic areas to historic centers and to the Unesco hills, there are many full tables and happy restaurateurs. “This weekend we have reached 80% occupancy rates,” says Giovanni Cher, head of Federalberghi Confcommercio.

Is it the restart of tourism?

«The awaited restart, I would add. The Easter bridge promises to be excellent, in these days many hotels have almost sold out, and the same are small domestic structures. Of course, after the pandemic some hotels have not reopened but the market is now moving well ».

Short-term forecast?

“Still good, also next weekend seems to have started with excellent numbers, then less May, at least for now”.

What about the summer? Treviso is not Venice, it is not the coast: how does it fit?

«This is a good game to play, the capital and the Marca work a lot with the labor market which in the summer fades, or at least shrinks. But the attendance of these days, as seen in the past, shows that the province has an excellent potential for attractiveness. And this is also demonstrated by the data highlighted by the excellent and intelligent promotion campaign carried out by the Municipality of Treviso, Ryanair and the Prosecco consortium doc. Obviously it will not be easy to keep the numbers high during the holiday period, but the positioning is there, and with events and initiatives we can only improve ».

Not a European capital tourism, but an interesting city?

“And I would say barycentric, because here it is comfortable for everything, in Venice as well as in the hills, at the sea as in the hinterland or in the mountains”.

His sector perhaps needed it more than the restaurant business.

“I would say yes”

After a collapse between 2019 and 2020, the numbers of small B & Bs are also growing again. In fact, they are your competitors, but a clear thermometer like hotel room reservations.

«Yes, but on the B & B front it should be pointed out that the sell-out of these days is also the result of the fact that the structures have decreased. With the pandemic, many tourist businesses have converted to long-term rentals as they no longer have tourists to work with. The numbers have risen again today but cover part of the closures. We will see in the next few years what the trend of the situation will be ».
