The walkway built in 2003 is collapsing. The administration awaits estimates and goes in search of money to build a new one

According to the law, 18 is the age of maturity. For the bridge-walkway over the Tegnas that in Taibon connects the area of the sports field with the recreational area under construction, it is instead the age of decadence. Built in 2003, it has now been closed by the Municipality as a precaution, but will have to be demolished and rebuilt from scratch. «The structure», says Fernando Soccol, deputy mayor and councilor for public works, «has gone into decay and is rotting: the shoulder on the right bank of the Tegnas stream has collapsed and the left is not in good shape either; the supporting beams are not in immediate danger, but the conditions in which they live do not allow us to let people pass on the bridge ».
The problem, however, is that this area was connected by the walkway to the one on the left of Tegnas where the football pitch and the synthetic five-a-side football pitch are located. A walkway on which, except for miracles, it will no longer be possible to pass until it is rebuilt. “Unfortunately, when the bridge was built in 2003,” says Soccol, “there was no provision for a timely defense of the building. It is a prefabricated laminated pine and not larch which, as we know, is more resistant. At the beginning it did a bit of cleaning, but then it went into decline ».
The municipal administration has already contacted the construction company (the one that had put it into operation has instead failed) to understand what to do. “It is an Austrian company, which meanwhile explained to us that the duration of that bridge had been indicated in 15-20 years. We sent her the photographic documentation and she replied immediately warning us that it would cost more to fix it than to build from scratch. It is therefore not convenient to think about getting involved. We must instead aim for demolition and reconstruction ».
To do this, however, you first need to quantify the expense, then recover the necessary money. “We asked the Austrian company itself to send us a quote. Now they make them in larch and with a sheet metal cover. It is difficult to hypothesize the expense. The one in 2003 had cost 100,000 euros. It’s easy for the price to rise today. In the meantime we were also contacted by another company from Trentino who asked us if they could send us a quote. Now we are waiting ».
In the meantime, the construction site at the recreational area is on stand-by pending the variant project relating to the raising of the embankments for the construction of a wooden bridge. The works, however, are expected to finish in the autumn. Instead, the new doors were positioned to replace those previously recovered in Cernadoi. «The invitation that we address to the boys», says Soccol, «is that not to climb». –
